007JL Odds: One Price in Three Formats
Odds state how much comes back for a stake and, by the same number, how likely the book thinks the outcome is.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| 007JL Betslip, Line by Line | A betslip lists your selection, the market, the odds, your stake and the potential return. |
| 007JL Bookie and the Bookmaker Role Explained | A bookie sets odds on every outcome of an event, takes bets on all sides and adjusts prices to balance the book. |
| 007JL Hedge Betting | Hedge betting means placing a second bet on the opposite outcome of a bet you already hold, so the result is fixed whichever side wins. |
| 007JL Player Props | Player props are bets on one player's own statistics, such as points, rebounds or assists, rather than the result of the game. |
| 007JL Over Under | An over under bet picks whether the combined total of a match lands above or below a set line. |
| 007JL Vig and Juice Betting, Worked Out in Pesos | The vig is the margin built into a set of odds. |
| 007JL What Is Handicap in Betting | A handicap adds or subtracts goals or points from one side before the bet is settled. +1.5 wins if your side loses by one or wins or draws; -1.5 wins only if your side wins by two or more. |
Odds state a price. A selection at decimal 2.50 pays ₱250 in total on a ₱100 stake, and the same number says the book rates the outcome at a 40% chance. Everything on a sports market list, from a single to a long accumulator, is built from that one idea, so learn it before you read any betting market list.
What odds state
Odds carry two facts in one number: the payout and the implied probability. To get the payout, multiply the stake by the decimal price. To get the implied probability, divide 1 by the decimal price.
| Decimal odds | Total return on ₱100 | Profit | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.50 | ₱150 | ₱50 | 66.7% |
| 2.00 | ₱200 | ₱100 | 50.0% |
| 2.50 | ₱250 | ₱150 | 40.0% |
| 4.00 | ₱400 | ₱300 | 25.0% |
These are example prices chosen for round arithmetic, not prices from any lane.
The odds format you see: decimal, fractional and American
An odds format is only a way of writing the same price. Decimal shows the total return per peso. Fractional shows profit against stake. American shows how much you stake to win 100, or how much you win on 100.
- Decimal: 2.50 means ₱2.50 back for every ₱1 staked, including the stake.
- Fractional: 3/2 means ₱3 profit for every ₱2 staked, so ₱150 on ₱100.
- American: +150 means ₱150 profit on a ₱100 stake.
All three are the same bet. A change of format never changes what you win. Your betslip may show only one format, so know how to convert the other two, and see how the betslip lines read before you confirm.
American odds: plus and minus
American odds use a sign. A plus number is the profit on a 100 stake. A minus number is the stake needed to make 100 profit.
| American | Meaning | Decimal | Fractional |
|---|---|---|---|
| +100 | Stake 100, profit 100 | 2.00 | 1/1 |
| +150 | Stake 100, profit 150 | 2.50 | 3/2 |
| +300 | Stake 100, profit 300 | 4.00 | 3/1 |
| -200 | Stake 200, profit 100 | 1.50 | 1/2 |
| -110 | Stake 110, profit 100 | 1.909 | 10/11 |
Conversion rules: for a plus number, decimal is 1 plus the number divided by 100. For a minus number, decimal is 1 plus 100 divided by the number without its sign. Check -110: 1 + 100/110 = 1.909.
Converting between formats
You can work any of the three out from the others in one step each.
- Fractional to decimal: divide the top by the bottom and add 1. For 3/2 that is 1.5 + 1 = 2.50.
- Decimal to fractional: subtract 1 and write the result as a fraction. 2.50 less 1 is 1.5, which is 3/2.
- Decimal to American: if the decimal is 2.00 or more, subtract 1 and multiply by 100, which gives +150 for 2.50. If it is below 2.00, divide 100 by the decimal minus 1 and show it as a minus, which gives -200 for 1.50.
Why the odds in a pair never add to 100%
Take a two-way market with decimal 1.91 on both sides. Each implies 1 / 1.91 = 52.4%, and together they make 104.7%. A fair pair would make exactly 100%, so the extra 4.7 points are the margin a bookie builds into the book. The sums for that margin are on the vig page.
Read the price, convert it to a probability, and compare it with your own view of the match. That habit does more for your betting than any format.
FAQ
What do odds actually tell you?
Odds state the payout for a winning stake, and the same number implies a chance of winning. Decimal 2.50 pays ₱250 on a ₱100 stake and implies a 40% chance.
Which odds format is easiest to use?
Decimal is the quickest, because stake times odds is the total return. Fractional and American need one extra step to turn into the same figure.
What does -110 mean in American odds?
A minus number is the stake needed to win 100. At -110 you stake 110 to win 100, which is decimal 1.909, a price close to 1.91.
Does a higher number always mean a better bet?
No. A higher price means a lower implied chance. Decimal 5.00 pays more than 1.50 because the outcome is less likely, not because it is a better deal.
