007JL Sabong Logro: How the Called Odds Work as Vocabulary
Logro is the called odds in a cockpit: the ratio the bet taker announces when the two sides are not equal, so the favoured side stakes more to win less.

E-sabong (online cockfighting) operations have been suspended nationwide since 2022, under Executive Order No. 9 signed on 28 December 2022 by President Marcos Jr. So sabong logro is cockpit vocabulary, not a betting instruction. This page explains the word, shows the arithmetic once with round numbers, and links the idea back to the sabong legal overview.
What logro means
Logro is the word for the called odds of a cockpit fight. When the two sides are even, the odds are even. When one bird is the favourite, the bet taker announces a ratio, and the favoured side must stake more to win the same amount.
No statute defines the word. PD 449 describes only the person who handles it: Section 4(c) says the bet taker or promoter calls and takes care of bets from owners of both gamecocks and other bettors before ordering the fight to begin, then distributes won bets to the winners after deducting a certain commission. The decree states no percentage, and this page gives none either.
| Source | What it covers |
|---|---|
| PD 449, Section 4(c) | The bet taker who calls and pays |
| Customary usage | The word logro and the ratio itself |
| The cockpit and its ordinance | The ratio actually called |
The words around logro
| Word | Customary meaning | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Llamado | The favoured bird | The side with the shorter odds |
| Dehado | The underdog | The side with the longer odds |
| Meron | The side named first, by custom | A label for one corner |
| Wala | The other side | A label for the opposite corner |
| Kristo | The caller of bets in the pit | The person announcing the ratio |
The labels meron and wala vary by cockpit, which is why the cockpit and its local ordinance set how a fight is named.
Sabong odds as arithmetic
An example, with round numbers chosen only for illustration and not a standard from any cockpit or any law: suppose the called ratio is 10 to 8 in favour of the llamado.
- The llamado side stakes 10 units to win 8.
- The dehado side stakes 8 units to win 10.
- A llamado stake of 100 pesos would therefore win 80 pesos, before any commission.
- A dehado stake of 80 pesos would win 100 pesos, before any commission.
The point of the example is the shape. The favourite wins more often, and the odds pay it less. That is all logro describes; the ratio actually called is the cockpit’s own.
The law that frames the odds
Three rules from the decree and the Order sit around any called odds in a licensed cockpit:
- Section 5(f) forbids gambling of any kind on the premises other than what the decree allows.
- Section 7 requires bet takers to hold a licence renewed every year on their birthmonth.
- Executive Order No. 9, Section 1, suspends online, remote and off-cockpit wagering on live cockfighting nationwide.
Where and when a cockpit may open at all is the subject of the page on cockfighting in the Philippines, and the ring where the odds are called is described on the ruweda ring page. If gambling ever stops being entertainment, 21+ applies and the responsible gaming page is the next stop.
FAQ
What does logro mean?
In cockpit speech logro is the margin between the two sides: when one bird is favoured, the called odds are unequal. It is customary usage, not a term PD 449 defines.
Who calls the odds?
PD 449, Section 4(c), describes the bet taker or promoter as the person who calls and takes care of bets, then pays won bets after deducting a certain commission.
Can logro be used online now?
No. Executive Order No. 9 suspends online, remote and off-cockpit wagering on live cockfights nationwide, so these odds are vocabulary about licensed cockpits only.
